The object

A colour lithograph of a late-sail boat on the river, printed in a numbered edition and framed at the time of purchase rather than later. The plate is clean, the margins are wide, and the frame is the original simple moulding with a wire and two hangers at the back. Nothing about it has been restored or reprinted.

Where it came from

Given as a wedding present in 1957 to a couple who never hung it — it stayed in its paper in a cupboard in Zamalek for fifty years and was taken out this spring to be measured.
