Screenprinted exhibition poster, Atelier Cairo, 1968

The object

The poster printed for a group show at a small atelier, two colours on off-white stock, signed in pencil in the lower margin by the printer rather than the artists. Rolled rather than flattened: it has been in a tube since it came down from the wall, so it will need a day under weight before it hangs straight.

Flaws disclosed by the holder

• Sun-fade across the lower third where it hung under a window.
• Two pinholes in the top margin.

Where it came from

Taken off the wall by the holder’s mother when the atelier closed, because she said nobody else at the opening had wanted it and she had paid for the frame.
