The object
A pocket-watch movement in a lugged case, the adaptation done once and done well, with a later dial and hands that suit it. The case is the tired kind with a hinge at the back and a crown that is stiff to the first click. It was wound at the counter, it was seen to move, and it was not tested for rate — which is a different claim and is not made here.
Flaws disclosed by the holder
- A hairline in the crystal running from the rim, two millimetres.
- The crown is stiff; the movement was not run for this listing.
Where it came from
The holder’s uncle wore it for twenty years and it came back in a drawer with a broken strap; it sold on the last minute of this auction, which is the only reason the seller saw the bid at all.
