The object
Four years of a weekly illustrated magazine, bound by year in plain cloth backs by a shop binder whose stamp is inside the front board of the first. The plates are present in every volume and the advertising pages were left in, which is the reason these are worth reading rather than just looking at. Heavy, and heavier than they look in photographs.
Flaws disclosed by the holder
- Two covers are detached and kept loose with the run.
- Foxing across the final plate of volume six.
Where it came from
Bound annually by the holder’s grandfather, who kept every issue for forty years and stopped in 1955 because, he said, the magazine had started writing about itself instead of about the country.
