The object

A heavy helmet on a bolted flange, brought out of a yard clear-out with the rest of the metal and cleaned only enough to read the fittings. Two vision ports, one of which is cracked, and the side plate is missing its glass. The corbie screws turn and the back plate comes free, which the holder did not expect. It is display metal rather than equipment and is offered as that.

Flaws disclosed by the holder

Where it came from

Sold by a scrap dealer who kept it on the counter because people kept stopping to look at it; the holder bought it as a boy in 1974 with money that was meant for a football.
